What Type of Skin You Have? Check out This Guide

Everyone has different skin. To care for your skin, it’s best to understand your skin type. Want to know which spectrum your skin falls into? Follow these two simple ways to identify your skin type.

Bare face method – Assess your skin without using any products.  Wash your face with a gently cleanser. Pat dry with a clean towel. Wait 25 minutes and examine your face.

  • Your skin will feel neither oily nor dry. This means you have normal skin.
  • Your skin may feel tight and dull. This means you have dry skin.
  • Your skin may appear shiny or greasy. This means you have oily skin
  • Areas like T-zone may appear oily while other parts of your face feel drier. This means you have combination skin.

Blotting sheet method – Here’s another simple way to determine your skin type. Press a clean blotting paper on different areas of your face. Hold the sheet up to a light to see how much oil is being absorbed. If there’s more oil on the paper, this means you have oily skin. If you see little to no oil, you may have dry skin. If the blotting sheet has minimal oil from your T-zone only, you probably have a combination skin or normal skin.

Sensitive Skin

Signs That You Have Sensitive Skin:

  • Skin irritation and redness
  • Burning sensation after using certain products
  • Experience frequent breakouts

Best Tips for Sensitive Skin

When you have sensitive skin, it’s good to continue with what works. Choose products that aren’t too harsh or aggressive. A creamy cleanser or a simple hydrating mask is typically good for sensitive skin. Do avoid products with alcohol as an ingredient. Toners and exfoliators can also irritate. Therefore, make sure you test them on a small patch of skin first.
